MÉNERBES

is in the Lubéron, a part of Provence made famous by Peter Mayle but still (except in high summer), largely unspoilt.

I visited in October. I have a very soft spot for hilltop towns, and this is  first-class example. The Town Hall belfry, with its wrought iron campanile, has a breathtaking view.
